This targets RHEL/CentOS only for now.

Prerequisites

Add additional Repository

Choose the architecture and distribution, like described here: http://repoforge.org/use/

#> cd /usr/src/
#> wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm
#> rpm --import http://apt.sw.be/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt
 
#> rpm -K rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm
#> rpm -i rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm

Installation

#> yum install perl
#> yum install perl-Net-SNMP
#> yum install perl-Config-IniFiles
 
#> cd /usr/src/
#> wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/snmptt/files/snmptt/snmptt_1.3/snmptt_1.3.tgz/download
#> tar xvzf snmptt_1.3.tgz
 
#> cd snmptt_1.3
#> cp snmptt /usr/sbin
#> cp snmptthandler /usr/sbin/
#> cp snmptt.ini /etc/snmp/
 
#> chmod 755 /usr/sbin/snmptt
#> chmod 755 /usr/sbin/snmptthandler

Add Log Directory

#> mkdir /var/log/snmptt

Change configuration File

Use your favorite editor.

#> vi /etc/snmp/snmptrapd.conf

Add the following lines:

traphandle default /usr/sbin/snmptthandler

disableAuthorization yes

Add spool folder

#> mkdir /var/spool/snmptt/

Startup Script config

#> cp snmptt-init.d /etc/rc.d/init.d/snmptt
#> chkconfig --add snmptt
#> chkconfig --level 2345 snmptt on

Lets start snmptt for the first time !

#> service snmptt start

Failures about missing snmptt.conf can be ignored. We will add these files later.

Configure Log Rotate

#> cp snmptt.logrotate /etc/logrotate.d/snmptt

Startup SNMPTRAPD

#> snmptrapd -On

Finished!
Snmptt is working now BUT we have to configure the MySQL connection for e.g NagTrap.

So let's edit the /etc/snmp/snmptt.ini

Configure snmptt.ini for MySQL Support

#> vi /etc/snmp/snmptt.ini

Change the following Parameters:

[General]
dns_enable = 1
 
[Logging]
stdout_enable = 1
log_enable = 1
log_file = /var/log/snmptt/snmptt.log
 
log_system_enable = 1
log_system_file = /var/log/snmptt/snmpttsystem.log
 
unknown_trap_log_enable = 1
unknown_trap_log_file = /var/log/snmptt/snmpttunknown.log
 
[Debugging]
DEBUGGING = 1
DEBUGGING_FILE = /var/log/snmptt.debug
DEBUGGING_FILE_HANDLER = /var/log/snmptt/snmptthandler.debug

Restart snmptt

#> service snmptt restart
